2006 Holiday Message

As we approach the Holiday Season many things happen for many people. For some, this time of year is a joyous one; for some, it is less than joyous. For many, this time of year is a reminder of how quickly time passes. It is a time for reflection, a time for closure or a time for new beginnings.

As many of you know, we have much to appreciate and be joyous about. We have been reminded that what drives the universe is Love. Love is a force that knows no boundaries. We have all seen and experienced this incredible force in action through periods of adversity, moments of pain and moments of laughter. Love has shown itself through friendships, actions and gestures, which transcend the scope of the written or spoken word.

For this and future holiday seasons, in place of exchanging presents and gifts, we would like you to give generously to the organizations below. They have reminded us about how precious life is and what Love is about. Alternately, consider giving your time or energy to a cause that makes this world a better place.

We have set up donation accounts at each of the hospitals to direct the funds to specific areas of request. In order to identify our account, your donation needs to be indicated by “In Honour of Ken Butler & Amy Kwok”. Tax receipts will be issued with each donation. Methods of payment are listed on each website’s link.

Sunnybrook & Women’s received Ken upon his brain injury on Thursday, July 28, 2004. Ken spent 61 days at this incredible facility, first in Critical Care, then in Neuro ICU and lastly on the patient floor D5. Funds donated here will be directed to Neuro ICU and D5. On the online donation form, under TRIBUTE GIVING and "Designation" scroll down to our "Ken Butler and Amy Kwok" account.

Toronto Rehab received Ken when he was ready to integrate Activities of Daily Living into his routine. Ken spent 95 days at this facility re-learning to function independently and forming new friendships. Funds donated here will be directed to Brain Injury Survivor Programs.

Credit Valley Rehabilitation Centre received Ken as an out-patient when he was ready to integrate back into the community. Funds donated here will be directed to the Credit Valley Rehabilitation Centre.

The Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine complemented the therapy team from Credit Valley Rehab and the modern medical care Ken received. Ken benefitted greatly from their holistic approach which took him to the next level of his recovery. Funds donated here will be directed to the fourth-year scholarships and bursaries fund.
